The best lenses for the Panasonic Lumix S5
Buy the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 first. At f/2.8 it is the brightest standard zoom that fits the Panasonic Lumix S5, framing like 24–70mm on its full-frame sensor. 38 L-Mount lenses fit natively.
Shooting something specific? The 38 lenses are broken out into 15 use-case lists — low-light (14), portrait (13), everyday (11), and 12 more — each showing only the L-Mount lenses for that job.
The Panasonic Lumix S5 uses the L-Mount mount, so every L-Mount lens fits. Below are the 38 L-Mount lenses in our index that cover its full-frame sensor natively — sorted by focal length, with max aperture and what each is best for. Specs are the manufacturers' own; we don't invent ratings.
Quick picks for the Panasonic Lumix S5
- Fastest prime: Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (f/1.2) — the brightest option for low light and background blur.
- Best for portraits: Panasonic Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4 (f/1.4). Amazon has no new-stock listing for this one right now — the best portrait prime we can link you to is Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (f/1.2).
- The f/2.8 workhorse zooms: Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art · Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 · Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art.
- Most reach: Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports — 600mm equivalent, for sports, wildlife and distant subjects.
The Panasonic Lumix S5 has a full-frame sensor, so the lenses below cover the full frame and their marked focal lengths are their true field of view (1× crop factor). 8 APS-C-only L-Mount lenses also physically mount, but only in crop mode (you lose resolution) — so they're not in this list.
What the Panasonic Lumix S5 itself changes about lens choice
- Sensor: 24.2 MP full-frame CMOS, DFD contrast AF. A balanced resolution — every current lens below resolves comfortably on it.
- Stabilization: in-body. The Panasonic Lumix S5 has IBIS, so even the 30 unstabilized lenses in this pool stay practical handheld — you can pick primes purely on optics.
- Balance: the body weighs 714 g. The heaviest lens in this pool (Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports, 2100 g) is 2.9× the body — expect a front-heavy rig, and support the lens, not the camera.
- Introduced 2020. Every lens below is current-catalog and mounts with full function — the L-Mount contract doesn't age.

What each focal length gives you on the Panasonic Lumix S5
Because the Panasonic Lumix S5 has a 1× crop factor, every lens's marked focal length is already its true field of view. This is the L-Mount range translated into what you actually get on this body — the 38 native lenses span 10–600mm equivalent.
| Field of view | Equivalent | Lenses that reach it | Brightest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra-wide | 8–23mm | 7 lenses | Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art f/1.4 |
| Wide | 24–34mm | 12 lenses | Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art f/1.4 |
| Standard | 35–59mm | 18 lenses | Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art f/1.2 |
| Short telephoto | 60–104mm | 16 lenses | Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art f/1.4 |
| Telephoto | 105–199mm | 10 lenses | 7Artisans AF 135mm f/1.8 f/1.8 |
| Super-telephoto | 200–600+mm | 7 lenses | Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 OIS f/2.8 |
Before you buy: fit checks for the Panasonic Lumix S5
Most lens returns are fit and expectation mismatches, not faulty glass. These are the ones that catch Panasonic Lumix S5 buyers out — all of them follow from the 1× crop factor and the mount, so you can check them before you order.
- Marked focal lengths are true here. The Panasonic Lumix S5 is full-frame (1×), so a 50mm frames like a 50mm — no conversion maths, and no surprise when it arrives.
- 8 APS-C L-Mount lenses will mount but crop. The Panasonic Lumix S5 drops to the middle of the sensor and you lose resolution. They are excluded from the table below for that reason — check the coverage column before buying used.
- The Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 is not the low-light answer. At f/2.8 it is 2.3× slower than the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (f/1.2). If you shoot indoors or at night, buy the prime instead — the zoom's convenience won't rescue a dark room.
Think twice about these on the Panasonic Lumix S5
They all mount and they all work — this is not a verdict and not a review. Each reason below is a number taken from the same manufacturer specifications as the table further down, so you can check it yourself before you order.
| Lens | Why it may not suit this body |
|---|---|
| Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports | 2,100 g on a 714 g body — 2.9× the weight of the Panasonic Lumix S5 itself. It balances front-heavy and is the combination most often sent back. |

What lenses fit the Panasonic Lumix S5?
Any L-Mount lens fits the Panasonic Lumix S5 — it uses the L-Mount. 38 L-Mount lenses in our index cover its full-frame sensor natively (22 primes and 16 zooms), spanning 10–600mm equivalent on this body.
What is the best first lens for the Panasonic Lumix S5?
The Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 — at f/2.8 it is the brightest standard zoom in the L-Mount range that fits, covering 24–70mm equivalent on the Panasonic Lumix S5. For people and low light specifically, the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4 (f/1.4) is the stronger pick.
What is the crop factor of the Panasonic Lumix S5?
The Panasonic Lumix S5 has a full-frame sensor, so its crop factor is 1× — marked focal lengths are the true field of view, with no conversion needed.
Can I use APS-C lenses on the Panasonic Lumix S5?
Yes, but the Panasonic Lumix S5 switches to crop mode and uses only the center of the sensor (lower resolution). 8 APS-C L-Mount lenses do this. For full quality, use the full-frame L-Mount lenses listed above.
Can I use older or other-brand lenses on the Panasonic Lumix S5?
Yes, with a mount adapter. Sigma's MC-21 brings Sigma-made SA-mount and EF-mount lenses to L-mount bodies with single-shot autofocus (AF-S works; AF-C does not). The MC-31 is the purely mechanical PL cine adapter — manual everything, with shim-adjustable back focus. Native L-Mount lenses need no adapter.
Does the Panasonic Lumix S5 have in-body stabilization (IBIS)?
Yes — the Panasonic Lumix S5 has in-body image stabilization, so unstabilized primes remain practical handheld, and optically stabilized lenses (8 of the 38 here) stack on top of it for telephoto and video work.
