Mirrorless lens mount statistics
Nikon Z is the most open major mount: 70% of its 161 lenses in this dataset come from third-party brands (12 brands in total), against 18% on Canon RF. Across all 596 verified lenses here, 68% are primes. Computed from manufacturer catalogs — full tables below.
Every figure on this page is computed from the 596 manufacturer-verified lenses and 86 camera bodies in the FitMyLens dataset (methodology) — a curated, growing set, not a census of every lens ever made. That scope is stated so the numbers can be cited honestly. Free to reuse with a link (how to cite).
The ecosystem, mount by mount
| Mount | Lenses | Brands | Third-party share | Zooms | Primes | Bodies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony E | 194 | 14 | 59% (114) | 31% | 69% | 26 |
| Nikon Z | 161 | 12 | 70% (112) | 21% | 79% | 14 |
| Fujifilm X | 103 | 11 | 59% (61) | 27% | 73% | 13 |
| Canon RF | 61 | 4 | 18% (11) | 54% | 46% | 16 |
| L-Mount | 46 | 4 | 9% (4) | 43% | 57% | 7 |
| Micro Four Thirds | 31 | 3 | 0% (0) | 45% | 55% | 10 |
"Third-party" means a brand other than the mount owner — for the L-Mount Alliance (Leica, Panasonic, Sigma) and Micro Four Thirds (Olympus/OM System, Panasonic), alliance members count as first-party, which is why both show 0% here.
Third-party support is the widest gap between mounts
In this dataset, Sony E carries 114 third-party lenses from brands like Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox, Samyang and Zeiss — 59% of its native line-up. Canon RF, which only began licensing third-party autofocus lenses in 2024, carries 11 (18%). Nikon Z sits between at 70%. For a buyer, that share is the practical difference between three price quotes per focal length and one.
Zoom vs prime
Primes dominate mirrorless catalogs: 68% of the 596 lenses here are primes. The outlier is Canon RF at 54% zooms — Canon's first-party line leans on zoom coverage where open mounts fill the prime gaps with third-party glass.
Weight & weather-sealing, mount by mount
Fujifilm X has the lightest lenses in this dataset — a 313g median across 90 manufacturer-verified weights, against a 558g median on Canon RF. L-Mount leads weather-sealing coverage: 86% of its weight-verified lenses carry a manufacturer sealing claim.
| Mount | Weights verified | Median weight | Lightest lens here | Heaviest lens here | Sealed (claimed) |

| L-Mount | 42 of 46 | 533g | Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary (260g) | Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports (2100g) | 86% (36) |
| Micro Four Thirds | 31 of 31 | 320g | Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II (87g) | OM System M.Zuiko 150-600mm f/5-6.3 IS (2065g) | 26% (8) |
"Weight verified" = a manufacturer-recorded gram figure exists for that specific lens in the FitMyLens dataset (lenses without one are excluded from the median/lightest/heaviest columns, never estimated). "Sealed (claimed)" counts only lenses whose maker explicitly claims weather/dust resistance for that model — an unclaimed lens may still be sealed in practice; this table reports what manufacturers state, not what's true of every unit. 81 of the 596 lenses in the full dataset have no verified weight yet and are excluded from this section entirely.

Common questions
Which lens mount has the most third-party lens support?
Nikon Z: 112 of its 161 lenses in this dataset (70%) come from brands other than the mount owner, across 12 lens brands in total. Canon RF remains the most closed major mount, with 18% third-party lenses in this dataset.
Are most mirrorless lenses zooms or primes?
Primes. Across the 596 verified lenses in this dataset, 68% are primes and 32% are zooms. Canon RF is the outlier: half of its current native line-up here is zooms.
How many brands make lenses for each mount?
Sony E: 14 · Nikon Z: 12 · Fujifilm X: 11 · Canon RF: 4 · L-Mount: 4 · Micro Four Thirds: 3. Sony E leads with 14 distinct lens brands in this dataset.
Which mirrorless mount has the lightest lenses on average?
Fujifilm X, with a median lens weight of 313g across 90 manufacturer-verified weights in this dataset. Canon RF is heaviest at a 558g median — comparison limited to mounts with at least 20 verified weights.
Which lens mount has the most weather-sealed lenses?
L-Mount: 86% of its 42 weight-verified lenses carry a manufacturer weather/dust-sealing claim. This is a floor, not a ceiling — many lenses in this dataset have no sealing claim recorded either way (see the table below), so their true sealing status is unknown, not "unsealed".

Methodology
Counts are computed at build time from the FitMyLens dataset: every lens's mount, brand, focal length, aperture and type comes from the manufacturer's official product name and catalog entry (sources). The set is curated and growing — figures describe this dataset, not every lens ever manufactured, and update automatically as lenses are added. Prices are not part of this dataset (they change daily and are shown live from Amazon only), so no price statistics appear here. Corrections: tell us.
